At EnviroPod™, we are committed to protecting waterways from plastic pollution, and we are excited to be part of this initiative in Florida! Through the University of Florida’s Operation TRAP (Tactical Removal of Aquatic Pollution), supported by NOAA’s Marine Debris Program, LittaTrap™ devices among other devices have been installed to prevent trash from entering Florida’s Big Bend and Nature Coast aquatic preserves.
-Install interception technologies to capture litter at the source
-Reduce the quantity of litter entering the Aquatic Preserve waterways
-Collect data on the types and quantities of debris being captured
-Engage with the community and foster change through data-driven education and outreach
-Produce a Municipality Toolkit to encourage other local governments to implement similar approaches in their communities
-Develop stewards of Florida's sensitive coastal resources and encourage lifestyle changes
With over 1 million acres of coastal landscapes at stake, this program is playing a crucial role in preserving Florida’s marine ecosystems. By installing LittaTrap™ units across stormwater systems, this initiative is keeping plastic and other pollutants out of our water while setting a precedent for sustainable stormwater management.
More LittaTrap™ units are expected to be installed as part of Operation TRAP in the coming years. Additionally, the University of Florida, Florida Sea Grant, and local governments are working together to collect data and educate the public on the impact of stormwater pollution. This knowledge will be used to inform future strategies for protecting Florida’s waterways.
